Naughty or Nice

Stockings

These are the stockings that we use every Christmas for our boys. We use these as a tool to help enforce good and bad behavior. As you can see if they are good they move up the ladder and if they are bad they move down.

The one on the left is the little one’s. He is my mini me so of course his candy cane stays towards the bottom. The other morning he comes to me and says “I am tired of being lump of coal naughty”. I am thinking great, finally a breakthrough, he is learning right from wrong. Little one says ” Dad I fixed it”. Great son how did you do that? “I ripped of the candy cane.” (The candy cane is the indicator of what stage of the stocking he is on.) I couldn’t help but laugh.

My 3 year old is very perceptive on how things work. So instead of changing himself, he changes the problem to fit his solution. I can not help but be envious sometimes of how kids see the world through their eyes. There answers to every day problems are simple and precise. We as adults mud the water and most of the time can not define the real problem. I try to learn from my children as much as they learn from me. Remember they are a child only once so let them enjoy it.

Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open.  ~John Barrymore
